Sometimes, there is happiness
Sometimes, if you take a day apart, piece by layer, piece by layer, you might just glimpse it. It’s there, in a promise, in a pair of short legs pounding—a tumbling tide seeping into the stone tile floor. The teacup’s silent welcome to the warm splash of water. The worn, rubber skin of the tyre pressing against a wound in the open road. Retrouvailles, the first, brave leaves of autumn leaping into the ground’s open embrace. The raindrop against the earth's cracked lips. Retrouvailles, and she’s swept up, weightless, into steady, familiar arms. The river's mouth— a wanting kiss. Warm ocean, mantle, and core.
