Revival by Saraswati Nagpal

Revival

Blue gauze of sleep rises and falls

on blue islands, blue trees.

Coal-dark coral dreams

of incoming tide.

Taut threads of time have woven me

to this shore of unravelling.

I am a prayer of knots untying in slow

obeisance.

Honey drips from oriole’s flute-song.

Usha stretches ochre arms, sighs,

casts copper tresses on satin

swell.

Call me a pilgrim in this palace of dawn.

Ahead, that blaze of tolling gold.

Behind, the trees turn emerald

in awe.

Usha: Dawn goddess (Sanskrit)
